Andrés Madariaga

Born in Santiago, Chile, guitarist Andrés Madariaga studied at the Austral University of Chile and completed his master’s degree at Salzburg’s Mozarteum with Marco Tamayo. His competition awards include first prizes in Amarante, the NRW Guitar Prize and the Spanish Guitar Competition in Tokyo.

Alongside solo performances and recordings, Madariaga plays with harpist Maria-Theresa Freibott in Duo Multicorde. The duo recorded for Etymology Classics in New York in 2023. His albums include Sonata Romántica and An Idea. Composer Leo Brouwer dedicated his ninth guitar sonata to Madariaga, whose educational work has also taken classical guitar to communities across Chile.
